Christopher J. Nicol, Ph. D.

Dr. Christopher J. Nicol received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology Collaborative Program from the University of Toronto characterizing individual risk factors of susceptibility to birth defects. He then did his post-doctoral training at the National Cancer Institute, NIH in Bethesda identifying the physiological and toxicological roles of the PPAR family of nuclear receptor proteins. He was recruited to Queen’s University in 2005, and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology & Molecular Medicine, and Division of Cancer Biology & Genetics, Queen’s Cancer Research Institute, and holds a cross-appointment in the Department of Biomedical & Molecular Sciences. Dr. Nicol’s research focuses on unveiling how PPARg signaling pathways regulate environmental and genetic interactions leading to long term toxicity, in particular during the growth and spread of breast and colon cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr Nicol has served as STC Treasurer since 2016.
